Glass and Double Glazing

Warm soapy water or a quality glass cleaner is perfect for removing dirt and grime. To prevent scratching of the glass, the use of a soft cloth is recommended and the removal of all hand jewellery.

PVC-U Frames

Maintenance of the white PVC-U frame should consist of a regular clean with a mild NON ABRASIVE detergent solution.

For subborn dirt and marks, use a suitable cream cleaner, abrasive cleaners however should NEVER be used and on NO ACCOUNT should steam cleaning be used.

For woodgrain effects or coloured frame (such as brown) simply wash the frames with warm soapy water. DO NOT use ABRASIVE cleaners as this may affect the overall finish. On NO ACCOUNT should steam cleaning be used.

Gaskets and Seals

Clean the gaskets and weather strips regularly with a mild NON ABRASIVE detergent. Following cleaning ensure that all gaskets and seals are correctly located around the frames and openers.

Locks and Hinges

Its is recommended that all locks and hinges are LIGHTLY oiled after the cleaning of the frames. Use a light machine oil such as "THREE IN ONE" or "WD-40".

For HINGES apply one drop of oil to each pivot and wipe away excess oil with a clean dry cloth.

Lubricate locking mechanisms in the same way. DO NOT lubricate the CYLINDER lock (where the key is used) as it is packed with special grease.

The "SCISSOR" mechanism found on window FRICTION HINGES should be lightly lubricated as should ESPAGNOLETTE, and SHOOTBOLT locks.

The tightness of all screws and fittings should also be checked annually, but care should be taken as some screws control friction adjustment on hinges.

Double Glazing Conservatories and Porches

Polycarbonate and PVC roofing maybe cleaned using a MILD soap solution. DO NOT use cleaning agents which contain organic solvents, ammonia, or anionic surfactants*. 

(* - present in many household detergents - read the label before use)

Wash roof panels every four months but never use an abrasive cleaner. Ensure that gutters and drains are kept clear of leaves. Please note DO NOT walk on conservatory roofs.

Condensation prevention

To help prevent condensation provide natural ventilation wherever possible by opening a window (remembering security issues!) or fitting extractor units in kitchens or bathrooms. 

Always maintain some permanent heat in the home during cold weather. Also remember to keep internal doors to kitchens and bathroom shut to contain moisture.

Sliding Doors

Lightly oil locking cam slots and ensure that the bottom track is clear of debris but DO NOT lubricate this track.
